Incheon-Gyeonggi Siheung Bio Specialized Complex Sets Sail... Task Force Launches on the 12th
Gyeonggi Province joined hands with Incheon City to officially launch the task force for the promotion of the ‘Incheon-Gyeonggi Siheung Bio Specialized Complex’ on the 12th.
On the same day, Gyeonggi Province held the launch ceremony of the ‘Incheon-Gyeonggi Siheung Bio Specialized Complex Task Force’ at Michuhol Tower in Songdo, Incheon, and discussed the development direction of the bio specialized complex.
Siheung is home to Seoul National University Siheung Campus, with plans to establish Seoul National University Hospital and Dental Hospital. The province plans to create the Gyeonggi Siheung Bio Specialized Complex by linking Baegot District, focused on research and development, Wolgot District, centered on startups, and Jeongwang District, serving as a production base. Once designated as a specialized complex, the national government will provide concentrated support such as infrastructure, investment incentives, and research and development (R&D) to secure a super-gap technological competitiveness in the bio sector.
In particular, Siheung is advancing its outstanding biomedical research capabilities, and Incheon possesses world-class production and export capabilities. It is expected that synergy effects will emerge if the two regions establish a seamless cooperative system.

The task force includes Gyeonggi Province, Siheung City, Incheon City, Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency, Incheon Technopark, Korea Chemical Convergence Testing Institute, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, as well as universities such as Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Incheon National University, and Inha University, and leading domestic bio companies including Samsung Biologics, Celltrion, and SK Bioscience.
The task force is organized into subcommittees for infrastructure development, R&D and workforce training, and enterprise promotion, and plans to promote investment permit support, improvement of industrial complex infrastructure, establishment of R&D centers, corporate attraction, and one-stop corporate support.
Gyeonggi Province has focused on making the bio industry a core growth engine by advancing bio cooperation zones (clusters) at the city and county levels through bio workforce training projects and R&D support projects. The goal has been to link and advance all bio cooperation zones (clusters) in Gyeonggi Province into a single metropolitan cooperation zone.
The launch of this task force is an important first step in realizing Gyeonggi Province’s bio industry strategy, and it is expected to further concretize the vision of establishing a global bio mecca through metropolitan cooperation including Incheon and Siheung.
