Targeting December 2025 Opening, Full Use of Donated Land with 3,488㎡ (Approx. 1,050 Pyeong) Basement 1st Floor Exclusive Area... Expected to Become Yeongdeungpo's New Landmark... Planned as a Complex Cultural Space for All Generations
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold a "Yeouido Brighton Library Construction Residents' Briefing Session" at 4 p.m. on December 13th in the auditorium on the 4th floor of the Yeongdeungpo 50 Plus Center.
This briefing session was prepared to transparently share the Yeouido Brighton Library construction plan and future schedule with residents, aiming to resolve the public’s questions regarding the progress of the construction.
The briefing will proceed with ▲a report on the progress of the library construction ▲sharing the spatial composition and interior design direction ▲guidance on the future schedule ▲Q&A session, focusing on providing detailed explanations of the progress since the library construction announcement in February of this year.
The Yeouido Brighton Library will be a large-scale library established in the space donated upon completion of the former MBC site complex development project. It boasts a spacious exclusive area of approximately 3,488㎡ (about 1,050 pyeong) on the basement first floor and is expected to become a new landmark in Yeouido.
This library construction goes beyond simply building a facility; it is being carried out as a process of designing and materializing the project together with residents by reflecting their opinions. In addition to this residents' briefing session, the district has actively incorporated residents’ demands and expectations through a total of 14 public opinion collection sessions, including meetings.
The Yeoui-dong area has relatively lacked medium to large libraries and public cultural facilities compared to other regions within Yeongdeungpo, causing some inconvenience in library use and cultural benefits. Accordingly, the district plans to provide equal opportunities for all residents to acquire knowledge and information and to satisfy the diverse cultural needs of local residents through the construction of the Yeouido Brighton Library utilizing the donated land.
The Yeouido Brighton Library will be developed as a specialized space reflecting the regional characteristics of the international financial district and the needs of residents. It will be designed as a complex cultural space encompassing generations and ages, including a library equipped with about 60,000 volumes and various facilities such as a kids caf? for infants and children.
In particular, the kids caf? will be a learning-oriented play space specialized in English, providing an environment where children can naturally be exposed to English through play, conversation, and art activities with foreign teachers.
Additionally, creative reading spaces tailored to various reading and learning styles will be provided, including a welcome zone and lounge space for comfortable reading and relaxation.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “The Yeouido Brighton Library is a public cultural facility created together with residents, and we will prioritize residents’ opinions to establish it as a landmark representing Yeouido. Through this residents' briefing session, we will communicate more closely with the public and create a space that provides new pride to Yeouido residents.”
