Trump Appoints Lando, Former Mexican Ambassador, as Deputy Secretary of State
Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, on the 8th (local time) nominated Christopher Lando (61), who served as the ambassador to Mexico during his first term, as the Deputy Secretary of State for the next administration.
On the same day, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, stating, "Chris will work closely with Secretary of State nominee Marco Rubio to promote the prosperity and security of our homeland through the 'America First' foreign policy."
He introduced him by saying, "Chris tirelessly worked to reduce illegal immigration to the lowest levels in history while serving as the ambassador to Mexico," and called him "one of our country's great lawyers." Former ambassador Lando, who is a lawyer by profession, served as the U.S. ambassador to Mexico from 2019 to 2021 during the first Trump administration.

On the same day, Trump also nominated his personal attorney, Alina Haba, as a White House presidential advisor. Additionally, Michael Needham, who has worked with nominee Marco Rubio, was appointed as an advisor to the State Department, and Michael Anton, a former member of the National Security Council from the first administration, was appointed as the Director of Policy Planning at the State Department.
