This Mayor Yoo supported 108 recycling collectors with cold-weather gear to improve their safety and welfare so they could withstand the winter cold.
The support for cold-weather gear was prepared based on the Seoul Metropolitan Government Geumcheon-gu Recycling Collectors Support Ordinance to help elderly recycling collectors carry out their activities safely even during the winter season.
The district selected recipients among recycling collectors who are registered residents of Geumcheon-gu and actually reside there, focusing on elderly persons aged 65 or older, persons with disabilities under the Welfare of Disabled Persons Act, and residents recognized as needing support based on a field survey.
This year, cold-weather clothing was provided to a total of 108 recycling collectors.
The district has been supporting various items annually for the safety and convenience of recycling collectors. In 2023, sunshade hats, lightweight vests, reflective ropes, and hand warmers were provided in the first and second halves of the year, while in 2022, reflective vests, folding carts, lightweight padded jackets, and safety gloves were supported.
Yoo Seong-hoon, mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “It is important to create an environment where recycling collectors can work safely. We will continue to prepare support measures that provide practical help according to the seasons. We also ask residents to be considerate and cautious for the safety of collectors on the roads.”
Additionally, the district is informing elderly recycling collectors about the “Senior Paper Collection Safety Insurance” implemented by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for their safety.
The insurance coverage period is from October 30 to December 31, 2024, and it targets senior paper collectors aged 65 or older residing in Seoul.
