Han Dong-hoon Holds Emergency Meeting with Prime Minister Han Deok-soo to Discuss Government Stability
Yoon "Leaving Political Affairs Including Term to Party"
Han Dong-hoon "Discussed Important Issues Like Prime Minister and Livelihood"
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, and Han Duck-soo, Prime Minister, are scheduled to hold an emergency meeting on the 7th to discuss future political stability.
A pro-Han faction lawmaker told Asia Economy in a phone call, "Leader Han is currently on his way to meet Prime Minister Han Duck-soo." This emergency meeting is to discuss follow-up measures to President Yoon Suk-yeol's national address.
Earlier, President Yoon Suk-yeol stated in an emergency national address at 10 a.m. that "I will entrust the future political stability measures, including my term, to our party. Going forward, the party and the government will take joint responsibility for state affairs."
Right after President Yoon's address, Leader Han told reporters that although early resignation is necessary, "I will closely discuss with the Prime Minister about the livelihood situation and other important matters to prevent the public from suffering and the external situation from worsening until President Yoon steps down early."
In political circles, there is an interpretation that Leader Han has shifted his stance from impeachment of President Yoon demanded by the opposition parties such as the Democratic Party to a responsible prime minister system or a constitutional amendment to shorten the presidential term.
Cho Kyung-tae, the most senior member (six-term) within the ruling party and a leading figure of the pro-Han faction, also reversed his position from supporting President Yoon's impeachment. Cho told reporters at the National Assembly on the same day, "(Leader Han) mentioned early resignation," adding, "It is important that the leader quickly drafts that roadmap."

Cho also emphasized, "Right now, the party leader is Leader Han, not the floor leader. Naturally, Leader Han should hold the key. I believe it is right for the leader to take full responsibility for all directions and take immediate action."
