Ministry of National Defense: "Will Absolutely Not Accept Martial Law Declaration Requests"
The Ministry of National Defense stated that it will not accept a second martial law declaration request even if it is made.
Acting Minister of National Defense Kim Seon-ho held a press conference at 1:30 p.m. on the 6th and expressed this position.
Acting Minister Kim said, "I deeply feel responsible for causing concern and anxiety to the public regarding the emergency martial law situation on December 3rd, and once again, I offer my apologies." He continued, "The Ministry of National Defense will actively cooperate with the prosecution's investigation," and "We will also dispatch military prosecutors to ensure a joint investigation is conducted."
Regarding the Military Human Rights Center's claim of a 'second martial law situation' earlier that morning, he said, "This is completely untrue," and emphasized, "Even if there is a request for a martial law declaration, the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff will absolutely not accept it."
