Simmons Selected as ESG Leading Company... Biodegradable Materials Applied to Beds
N32 Fabric and Padding Featuring 'Iceland Seashell™'
Fire-Resistant Mattress Patent Released for Public Benefit
Simmons announced on the 6th that it was selected as a leading company in the environmental sector of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) at the ‘2024 THE ESG’ awards ceremony.
This year, Simmons launched a new product equipped with vanadium pocket springs that can be used semi-permanently. The company extended the product usage cycle, reduced waste emissions, and minimized environmental impact, while also introducing the high-end vegan mattress N32, which is the first in the domestic bed industry to obtain vegan certification for all products. The N32 reflects Simmons’ ESG management philosophy of ‘companies should benefit the world.’
All fabrics and padding of the N32 products incorporate ‘Iceland SeaCell™.’ This material, containing organic seaweed from the pristine areas of Iceland and cellulose dietary fiber, is biodegradable and returns to nature, thereby minimizing environmental impact.
In addition, Simmons practices ESG management in other ways. In January, it publicly disclosed a patent related to flame-retardant mattress manufacturing methods for the public good. This was a decisive move to promote awareness of safe products in the bed industry.
In July, despite a large-scale unsettled payment incident at a leading domestic e-commerce company, Simmons kept its promise to consumers. At that time, even though the payment of 1.4 billion KRW was uncertain, Simmons completed deliveries to minimize consumer damage.
Five percent of the consumer price of the ESG bed ‘Beautyrest 1925’ is accumulated as a remodeling fund for the Pediatric and Adolescent Center at Samsung Seoul Hospital. Since 2020, Simmons has been donating 300 million KRW annually to Samsung Seoul Hospital to support treatment for children battling pediatric cancer and severe rare and intractable diseases.
