A national heritage-type preliminary social enterprise refers to a company that meets the minimum requirements for social enterprise certification, such as realizing social objectives in the national heritage field and generating profits through business activities.
The National Heritage Administration has been designating such enterprises since 2012 to promote the national heritage industry, expand cultural services for vulnerable groups, and create a foundation for job creation.
This year's awardees are Sabers Korea and Anchor Lab. The former presented a new business model with the 'K-Heritage Art Exhibition' in September. They showcased 138 traditional crafts and contemporary art pieces by intangible heritage holders, traditional artisans, and modern craft artists at Nakseonjae, Changdeokgung Palace, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. By setting the palace, which attracts many domestic and international tourists, as the exhibition venue, they encouraged the public to easily and familiarly engage with Korean traditional art.
