Gwangju and Jeonnam Police Also Switch to 'Regular Duty'
The nationwide martial law, which had been imposed, was lifted after 6 hours, and on the 4th, schools at all levels in the Gwangju area are operating normally.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education sent a text message at 6 a.m. that day to principals, administrative directors of elementary, middle, and high schools in Gwangju, and heads of affiliated institutions, informing them that "school curricula will be operated normally."
That morning, some parents flooded phone lines inquiring about the school schedule, asking if a school closure order had been issued.
The Gwangju and Jeonnam police also returned from emergency standby to regular duties following the lifting of martial law.
In response to the martial law declaration the previous afternoon, the Gwangju and Jeonnam police held an emergency meeting, ordered senior officers to report to their designated posts, and issued standby orders to be ready to dispatch if any incidents occurred.
