A restaurant owner’s story about a customer demanding insurance compensation after losing a tooth while eating fried squid has come to light.
On the 2nd, a post titled "A customer said their tooth fell out while eating fried squid" was uploaded to the self-employed community 'Apeunikka Sajangida' (Because It Hurts, I’m the Boss). The author, Mr. A, who runs a gopchang (grilled intestines) restaurant in Seo-gu, Incheon, but recently changed the business to a stew restaurant, explained the situation: "On the fifth day after opening, late Sunday evening, a group of five men and women were eating stew and fried squid when there was a cracking sound. They spat it out and showed me a tooth that had fallen out." He added, "It wasn’t a natural tooth; when I asked, they said it was a laminate," attaching a photo. Laminate is a type of prosthetic dental treatment where part of the tooth is shaved down and a porcelain prosthesis is bonded with resin adhesive.

He continued, "I asked the customer if there was any foreign object, but they got angry and said they didn’t know if they spat it out or swallowed it." He added, "The customer said they just wanted insurance compensation, but I told them there was no foreign object and it wasn’t a hard food, so insurance compensation wouldn’t be possible." He said the conflict escalated and the police were eventually called. "Even the police couldn’t resolve the situation and only mediated. The customer kept demanding insurance compensation, but I stood firm that I couldn’t accept it," he added.
Mr. A also claimed, "During the heated argument with the customer, a female member of the group threatened to post a video on a mom’s community caf?." He lamented, "In this situation, is it right to provide insurance compensation? The owner of the neighboring store said it’s nonsense but to just consider it bad luck and handle the insurance, but no matter how much I think about it, it doesn’t seem right." He also expressed concern, saying, "I couldn’t sleep until dawn yesterday. Strange posts appeared on the mom’s caf?, spreading bad rumors about the store, and I’m worried business will fail, so I can’t focus on work."
