‘BIG BUS’ Public Event Held... New Design of Busan City Buses Debuts
Public Event at Busan Station Plaza at 11 AM on the 4th: "Save with Dongbaek Pass, Travel Conveniently with BIG BUS"
Mayor Park Hyung-jun: "BIG BUS and Dongbaek Pass, Citizen-Friendly Policies to Create 'Busan, the Most Convenient City for Public Transportation'"
Busan City will revamp the current city bus design, introduced in 2016, after about 9 years and hold the ‘Big Bus (BIG BUS) Public Event’ at 11 a.m. on the 4th at Busan Station Plaza.
BIG (Busan is good) BUS is the new design for Busan Metropolitan City’s city buses.
The new city bus design is named ‘Big Bus (BIG BUS),’ and two types were presented: regular buses and seat buses.
The ‘Big Bus (BIG BUS)’ design incorporates elements such as Busan’s urban image, visibility, aesthetics, and symbolism. The color system applied to regular buses evokes ‘cleanliness, eco-friendliness, and smartness,’ while the seat buses’ colors suggest ‘warmth, inclusiveness, and kindness.’
Along with this, all designs have been transformed with a new look, including the vehicle’s exterior paint, external number and route regulations, internal route maps and attachment regulations, and external advertising panel regulations.
At tomorrow’s event, the new design will be unveiled for the first time in the presence of about 200 citizens, including Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Kim Jae-woon, Chair of the City Council’s Construction and Transportation Committee, and Sung Hyun-do, Chairman of the Busan City Bus Transportation Association.
Currently, the city operates a total of 2,517 city buses. Among them, 200 to 300 buses replaced annually will sequentially adopt the new design, and by 2033, all city buses are expected to be replaced with the ‘Big Bus (BIG BUS)’ design.
After the ‘Big Bus (BIG BUS)’ unveiling event, the city will also launch a campaign to promote public transportation and the ‘Dongbaek Pass’ in collaboration with the Busan City Bus Transportation Association and Busan Bank. The campaign slogan is ‘Save with Dongbaek Pass, travel conveniently with Big Bus (BIG BUS).’
Since the introduction of the city’s integrated public transportation discount system ‘Dongbaek Pass’ in August last year, the number of users has steadily increased, and the number of subscribers is expected to soon surpass 600,000. In a satisfaction survey conducted in October, many respondents agreed that the ‘Dongbaek Pass’ contributes to increased public transportation use (76.5%) and improved public transportation environment (81.9%). Accordingly, the city views the activation of the ‘Dongbaek Pass’ as linked to the revitalization of public transportation usage.
Therefore, the city expects that the newly reborn 60-year history city buses with the ‘Big Bus (BIG BUS)’ design and the integrated public transportation discount system ‘Dongbaek Pass’ with 600,000 subscribers will activate public transportation use in Busan and drive the achievement of the ‘60% public transportation modal share’ goal.
