Gyeongnam Jeongbo University Department of Occupational Therapy Wins Award at Junior College Joint Startup Competition
HomeOT, a startup club composed of students from the Department of Occupational Therapy at Gyeongnam Information University (President Kim Tae-sang), recently won an award at the 2024 Junior College Consortium Joint Startup Competition held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju.
This competition was hosted by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, and organized by the Junior College Consortium Joint Startup Project under the Startup Education Innovation Leading University (SCOUT) initiative. It was designed as an opportunity to instill entrepreneurship and strengthen startup capabilities among young entrepreneurs. A total of 37 teams from 21 junior colleges across five regions nationwide participated in a fierce competition.
The HomeOT startup club students from the Department of Occupational Therapy developed a Korean writing difficulty adjustment board and a sensory-motor based training board to improve handwriting skills of children with developmental disabilities. Their mentoring program utilizing these tools received high praise, earning them the Host University President’s Award.
Professor Park Joo-young, who guided the students, said, “It was rewarding to participate in research for children with developmental disabilities together with the students,” and added, “We will do our best to nurture professional personnel in the field of pediatric occupational therapy.”
