These vessels are scheduled to be delivered to the shipowners by December 2027.
Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders for a total of 33 vessels (approximately 6.8 billion USD), mainly LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers, as well as ammonia carriers and various other ship types, achieving 70% of this year’s target of 9.7 billion USD. By ship type, the orders include 22 LNG carriers, 2 ultra-large ammonia carriers, 1 shuttle tanker, 4 S-MAX oil tankers, and 4 container ships, totaling 33 vessels.
The global container ship market is expected to see increased demand for replacing aging vessels due to strengthened environmental regulations. According to a recent forecast by Clarkson Research, approximately 53 container ships of 12,000 TEU or larger are expected to be ordered annually from this year through 2027.
