On the 25th at 10 a.m., Busan City will appoint Professor Woo Shingu of the Department of Architecture at Pusan National University as the city's 3rd Chief Architect in the protocol room of City Hall.

View original imageProfessor Woo, who is being appointed today, will serve for the next two years to ▲establish long-term development directions for Busan's architecture and urban design ▲create high-quality, citizen-centered spatial environments ▲and oversee, plan, and coordinate architectural and urban design policies to secure public spaces for citizens through improving architectural design quality.
Professor Woo earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in architecture from Seoul National University. Since starting as a member of the Busan City Architecture Committee in 2004, he has served as a member of the Busan City Urban Planning Committee, chairman of the Busan City Urban Regeneration Committee, and a member of the Special Urban Regeneration Committee under the Prime Minister.
Currently, he is serving as a member of the Busan City Housing Policy Deliberation Committee and a member of the Yongsan Park Development Promotion Committee under the Prime Minister. He is recognized as an expert combining both theory and practice in the fields of architecture and urban planning.
Newly appointed Chief Architect Woo Shingu stated, “World-class cities are created through creative architecture and urban design that represent the identity of the city.” He added, “Going forward, we will create an internationally renowned 'global design city' that embodies the identity of 'Busan, an open and dynamic maritime city.'”

Mayor Park Hyung-jun emphasized, “Busan is currently passing through a time of opportunity to leap forward as a 'global hub city Busan,' with the opening of the Gadeokdo New Airport.” He continued, “We are appointing a person with extensive knowledge and diverse experience as the 3rd Chief Architect, which will lead to continuous creative innovation in architecture and urban design and help establish the urban development direction the city should pursue. This is expected to give greater momentum to creating 'Busan, a unique design city' that resonates with people worldwide.”
