Gwanak-gu Launches Full Operation of 35 Smart Senior Centers
14.3 Billion KRW Invested in 2024 to Expand 25 'Smart Gyeongrodang' Centers, Total of 35 Completed
November 18th 'Smart Gyeongrodang' Senior Challenge! Golden Bell Event Held
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has completed the expansion project of the ‘Smart Senior Centers’ to promote health management for the elderly and bridge the digital divide.
Last year, the district was selected for the ‘Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project’ organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT, securing 1 billion KRW in funding.
The district invested a total of 1.43 billion KRW for the installation of ‘Smart Senior Centers,’ expanding from the existing 10 locations by adding 25 more, bringing the total to 35 centers.
The Smart Senior Centers provide services such as ▲a ‘Smart Healthcare System’ that uses Internet of Things (IoT) health measurement devices for personalized health management ▲‘Online Leisure Welfare Programs’ utilizing video platforms ▲‘Experience Kiosks’ to help bridge the digital divide ▲and ‘Smart Table’ services that aid cognitive ability improvement for dementia prevention.
To commemorate the full-scale operation of the 35 Smart Senior Centers, the district held the ‘Smart Senior Centers Seniors Challenge! Golden Bell’ event on November 18.
Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, and Bae Jeongwoong, President of the Korean Senior Citizens Association Gwanak Branch, sent congratulatory messages via video program. Seniors participated in quizzes and enjoyed cheering and recreational activities by communicating in real-time online with other senior centers from their respective locations, fostering communication and harmony among the centers.
The Golden Bell event used a video program to conduct quizzes based on digital usage, health, and general knowledge learned, including OX quizzes and subjective questions, receiving enthusiastic responses due to the active participation of the seniors.
The seniors are managing their health, enjoying leisure activities, and improving their digital communication skills through the Smart Senior Centers.
Additionally, last month, an ‘Expanded Operation Briefing for Smart Senior Centers’ was held targeting the 25 newly added centers. Digital guides were assigned to each Smart Senior Center to help seniors become familiar with new devices and easily utilize the various services offered by the centers.
