A Man in His 20s Who Killed His Girlfriend After Breakup Demand Sentenced to 20 Years in First Trial
Order to Attach Electronic Device Rejected
A man in his 20s who killed his girlfriend after she demanded a breakup was sentenced to a heavy prison term.
On the 21st, the Criminal Division 12 of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Jeong-hyeong) sentenced Kim Mo (22), who was tried on murder charges, to 20 years in prison.
The court stated, "The crime was brutal, and despite the victim being alive, instead of providing aid, he stabbed her multiple times with a weapon, killing her," adding, "He tried to evade responsibility during the early investigation, so strict punishment is necessary."
However, regarding the prosecution's request for an electronic monitoring order, the court dismissed it, saying, "Since this was an impulsive crime arising from a personal relationship, it does not appear that violence would be directed toward the general public, and the risk of reoffending is assessed as moderate."
Earlier, Kim was accused of causing the death of his girlfriend, who had demanded a breakup, at a multi-family house in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on May 21.
