Cheonan City FC Supporters Zephyros Demand Asan FC to Withdraw Promotion-Relegation Match at Cheonan Stadium
Cheonan City FC supporters group Zephyros has voiced opposition to the Cheonan city government's approval for Asan FC to use Cheonan City FC's home stadium, Cheonan Sports Complex, for the K League promotion-relegation playoff.
On the 21st, Zephyros released a statement saying, "Asan FC, without going through the proper procedures with the Cheonan City professional football club, collaborated with honorary club owner Kim Tae-heum, Governor of South Chungcheong Province, to push for the promotion-relegation playoff to be held in Cheonan," adding, "This is an inconsiderate act that goes against the principles of fair play as a member of Korean professional football."
They continued, "Although Cheonan city claimed that the stadium was approved for the sake of coexistence and cooperation with a neighboring city, we question who this coexistence and cooperation is really for," and pointed out, "Despite the existence of stadiums without home teams, they pushed for a location that was convenient for themselves, which we find unacceptable."
They added, "If Asan FC does not withdraw from playing the match at Cheonan Sports Complex, we will continue to protest on the day of the match," emphasizing, "All responsibility for this lies with Asan FC."
Meanwhile, Asan FC has advanced to the promotion-relegation playoff for the first time since its founding. The playoff is scheduled to take place on either the 28th or the 1st of next month, depending on the results of the final K League 1 match on the 24th. However, with their home stadium, Yi Sun-sin Sports Complex, undergoing turf replacement, Asan FC needed to secure another venue for their home match. Cheonan Mayor Park Sangdon approved the use of Cheonan Sports Complex, sparking public backlash.
