'Regen Brake System' in Apartment Elevators... Yongin City Pilots Installation in Cheoin-gu Complexes
Electricity Cost Reduction and Carbon Emission Decrease Effects... Efficiency Analysis Underway to Consider Expansion
'Regenerative braking' is a technology that converts kinetic energy generated during deceleration into electrical energy and stores it in the battery. It is a device commonly used in electric vehicles.
This device has also been applied to elevators within an apartment complex in An, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, drawing attention.

The regenerative braking device returns electricity generated by the motor during elevator operation to the common power supply, reducing electricity costs. By not using a resistive braking device in the elevator, it prevents heat generation, thereby reducing the use of air conditioners and ventilators.
The city supported 20 regenerative braking devices for elevators in Bopyeong Seohee Star Hills River Park Apartments in Gorim-dong, Cheoin-gu, with a budget of 60 million KRW. Previously, from April to October, the city accepted applications from multi-family housing in the water source management area of Cheoin-gu to select the complex.
The city expects that operating the regenerative braking devices installed in 20 elevators for one year will have a carbon reduction effect equivalent to planting about 10,000 pine trees. It also anticipated reducing electricity consumption by 10-30%, lowering communal electricity bills, reducing heat generation, and extending the lifespan of parts.
