Seosan City Registers Copyright for Tourism Characters "Gatiwa" and "Oshu"
Seosan City in South Chungcheong Province has completed copyright registration for its tourism characters "Gati and Oshu," inspired by the spotted seal of Garorim Bay.
According to the city on the 21st, the tourism characters "Gati and Oshu" were developed to facilitate active communication with tourists through their cute and friendly image. The names were inspired by a Chungcheong dialect phrase meaning "come together."
With this copyright registration, Gati and Oshu are now legally protected and will be utilized in various tourism content, festivals, and events.
The city has already used Gati and Oshu to promote Seosan, starting with the Seosan Haemieupseong Festival held last October and at the proclamation ceremony for the Year of Visit to Chungnam.
They are also scheduled to be produced and sold as various tourism souvenirs. The city expects that the characters will be widely used and contribute to revitalizing the local tourism industry.
Kim Kisoo, head of Seosan City’s Tourism Division, said, “We will continue to actively communicate with tourists through Gati and Oshu and do our best to enhance the Seosan tourism brand through diverse marketing efforts.”
Meanwhile, Gati, with a blue hue, is a shy and introverted male spotted seal, while Oshu, with a peach color, is a lively and extroverted female spotted seal.
According to their backstory, they are inseparable friends who have shared life's ups and downs together from the northern sea and eventually arrived at Garorim Bay in Seosan.
