Three Dong-A University Police Science Students Receive Police Commendation Awards
Efforts in Collaborative Patrol Activities and Drug Crime Victim Prevention Campaigns
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 18th that students Oh Ga-hyun (4th year), Eom Jun-young (4th year), and Haneul (3rd year) from the Department of Police Science received commendation certificates in celebration of the 79th Police Day.
Oh Ga-hyun and Eom Jun-young were recognized for their efforts in improving local public safety through collaborative patrol activities with the Dong-A University Police Science Department’s academic society ‘Patrol,’ receiving commendation certificates from the Busan Police Agency Chief and the Busan Western Police Station Chief, respectively.
The Patrol academic society of Dong-A University’s Department of Police Science is a patrol and volunteer club, with Oh Ga-hyun serving as president and Eom Jun-young as vice president. They conduct weekly patrols and ‘CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) marking activities’ alongside crime prevention officers from the Busan Western Police Station.
Oh Ga-hyun said, “Patrolling new areas twice a week was mentally challenging, but I am grateful to the Patrol members who participated together and the crime prevention officers who welcomed us with smiles. The Dong-A University Police Science Department’s Patrol will continue to work harder with the Busan Western Police Station to improve local public safety.”
Eom Jun-young stated, “Through joint patrol activities with active-duty police officers and patrols around the school over the past year, we were able to investigate crime-vulnerable areas and conduct CPTED activities. Some places I thought were safe actually lacked CCTV or streetlights, making them dark spots. I am currently preparing to become a police officer, and this experience has been a great motivation.”
Haneul, who serves as the president of the Dong-A University Police Science Department student council, received a commendation certificate from the Busan Western Police Station Chief for participating and cooperating in the distribution of crime prevention supplies and a drug crime prevention campaign targeting female students living alone, conducted by the Women and Youth Division of the Busan Western Police Station.
