On the 15th, Pohang City jointly held the '2024 Haeoreum Alliance Venture and Startup Innovation Forum' at the Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center (Ueco) together with Ulsan City and Gyeongju City.

The forum was attended by about 100 people, including Jang Sang-gil, Vice Mayor of Pohang City, Ahn Hyo-dae, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Ulsan City, Song Ho-jun, Vice Mayor of Gyeongju City, as well as representatives and executives of venture and startup companies from each city.

This year's forum, under the theme of 'The Role of Venture and Startup Companies Leading the Local Era,' was organized to establish a cooperative system to respond to the common agenda of 'local-led balanced development' and 'local extinction,' and to emphasize the innovative role of regional startup companies in seeking the joint development of the startup ecosystem and regional economy by connecting local government, industry, academia, and research resources within the Haeoreum Alliance region.

The event began with a tour of exhibition and experience booths of innovative companies representing each city, followed by a keynote presentation by Ahn Seok-hyun, Director of Pohang United Technology Holdings, representing Pohang, on the topic of 'Local Competitiveness to the World, Venture Companies Responding to the AI Era.'

In the subsequent discussion, Hong Dae-woong, Head of Pohang University of Science and Technology Technology Holdings, participated and presented ideas and solutions regarding the role of Pohang-based venture companies in the Haeoreum Alliance and the development of the regional economy.

In particular, in this major transition to the local era, in-depth discussions were held on ways for startup companies to play important roles in various fields such as job creation within the region, industrial innovation, technology development, and revitalization of youth entrepreneurship.

Jang Sang-gil, Vice Mayor of Pohang City, said, “In today’s global market, only prepared companies with excellent technological capabilities can seize and lead the market,” adding, “Taking this forum as an opportunity, we will spare no administrative support to create a venture and startup ecosystem on a super-regional scale beyond simple networking among companies.”

The Haeoreum Alliance Venture and Startup Innovation Forum is jointly held annually by Pohang City, Ulsan City, and Gyeongju City with the goal of connecting local government, industry, academia, and research to promote the mutual development of venture startups and establish global development strategies.
