Samsung E&A Wins 300 Billion KRW Qatar Petrochemical Plant Contract
Qatar ELP Ethylene Storage EPC Contract Signed
Samsung E&A has secured an ethylene storage project in Qatar. The company won the follow-up order after the client recognized its existing project execution capabilities.
On the 14th (local time), Samsung E&A announced on the 15th that it had signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the 'Qatar RLP Ethylene Storage Plant' with Ras Laffan Petrochemicals in Qatar.
Out of the total contract value of approximately KRW 588.2 billion (about USD 418 million), Samsung E&A will execute about KRW 301.9 billion (about USD 215 million). The contract period is 34 months. Samsung E&A plans to carry out the contract by forming a joint venture with Taiwan's CTCI. The client, Ras Laffan Petrochemicals, is a joint venture between QatarEnergy, Qatar's state-owned energy company, and Chevron Phillips Chemical of the United States.

View original imageThis project involves constructing ethylene storage facilities and utility & offsite (U&O) infrastructure in the Ras Laffan Industrial City, located 80 km north of Doha, the capital of Qatar. The plant to be built will be used for maintenance and emergency temporary storage of ethylene produced within the complex. Samsung E&A is responsible for the EPC of major equipment including a 30,000 metric ton storage tank, compressors, and pumps.
Samsung E&A explained, "We secured the follow-up order after the client recognized our project execution capabilities demonstrated in the Qatar RLP Ethylene project, which we won last year and are currently carrying out." The company plans to maximize efficiency by utilizing existing human and material resources on site and to execute the project based on client trust and its partnership with Taiwan's CTCI.
