First-Year Prosecutor Fined in First Trial for Assaulting Police Officer While Intoxicated

An active prosecutor who was charged with assaulting and insulting a police officer while intoxicated was sentenced to a fine.
On the 13th, Judge Jang Min-seok of the Criminal Division 4 at Seoul Southern District Court sentenced Prosecutor A (29) from Suwon District Prosecutors' Office to a fine of 7 million won on charges of obstruction of official duties and insult.
The court stated, "The defendant assaulted and verbally abused the police officer while intoxicated," but also explained the sentencing by considering "the defendant deposited a substantial amount for the victim and is a first-time offender."

Earlier, Prosecutor A was indicted in April for punching and insulting a police officer while intoxicated on a main road in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. It was also investigated that Prosecutor A resisted and used physical force against the police officers even after being taken to the police station.
