View original imageKorea Rotary announced on the 12th that it held the ‘2024 Joint Scholarship Award Ceremony’ at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, together with the Korea Rotary Scholarship and Cultural Foundation, awarding a total of 5.1 billion KRW in scholarships to approximately 2,450 university students selected from various districts nationwide.
The event was attended by Yoon Sang-gu, president of the Korea Rotary Centennial Club and the appointed Rotary International World President for 2026-27, along with Korean Rotary leaders, district governors and governors-elect, and representatives from the Scholarship and Cultural Foundation. The scholarships were handed over to Song Won-woo, governor of District 3661 and Rotary International President for 2024-25, and scholarship certificates were also presented to the invited scholarship recipients from across the country.

Since its establishment in 1973, the Korea Rotary Scholarship and Cultural Foundation has provided a total of 141.7 billion KRW in scholarships to about 72,000 students over 51 years. Marking the election of Yoon Sang-gu as the second Korean Rotary International World President for 2026-27, the scholarship system, which had previously selected only domestic scholars, was revised to annually select about 200 global scholars overseas, expanding the selection criteria to include descendants of Korean War veterans abroad. This year, as the first recipient among descendants of Korean War veterans, Yoon Sang-gu personally awarded a scholarship to Rahel Shenkute (Myongji University Graduate School), a scholar from Ethiopia.
