Lee Cheol, Vice Chairman of Jeonnam Provincial Council, "57.1% of Island Areas Lack Police Officers"
Strengthening Security in Island Areas: Call for 'Customized Measures'
Lee Cheol, Vice Chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Democratic Party of Korea·Wando 1), pointed out the reality of blind spots in security in island areas and called for measures to strengthen security during the administrative audit of the Jeonnam Autonomous Police Committee on the 11th.
Vice Chairman Lee Cheol stated, “Among the inhabited island areas in Jeonnam, 57.1%, or 155 locations, do not have police officers assigned, leaving them as blind spots in security services,” and added, “In particular, residents of island areas find it difficult to expect prompt responses in cases of crime or emergencies, and some police substations are vacant, requiring plans for resource utilization.”
He continued, “It is unfair that residents of island areas do not fully enjoy security services simply because they live there,” emphasizing, “There is a need for customized security services and practical measures that consider the characteristics of island areas.”
He also proposed the utilization of vacant police substations, urging, “Please do not spare continuous interest and support to strengthen security so that residents of island areas can live their daily lives safely.”
