Gangnam-gu Unveils Mural by Artists with Developmental Disabilities at Public Parking Lot
Adult Art Team 'Griami' Dreaming of Becoming Artists
Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is showcasing mural artworks by the adult developmental disability art team ‘Griami’ at two public parking lots (15 Nonhyeon-ro 32-gil, 421 Dogok-ro).
Griami consists of adult developmental disability artists trained through the daytime art program at the Seoul Disabled Parents Solidarity Activity Support Center. The team started in 2020 and currently has 20 active members. This mural project is the second, following last year’s exterior wall work at a parking lot (29 Eonju-ro 135-gil).
This mural project was promoted with support from the Korea Disabled Culture and Arts Institute’s public contest and sponsorship from the Gangnam Welfare Foundation. The district provided locations to help disabled artists continue their creative activities, and environmental and sculptural experts in the public design field collaborated to enhance the quality of public art.
Completed at the end of last month with the participation of nine artists, this mural features bright and lively colors under the theme of ‘Nature and Bees,’ bringing vitality to the otherwise bleak parking lots. The artwork will also be available for online viewing in cooperation with the environmental organization platform ‘Dance with bee.’
