200 Disabled and Non-Disabled Residents Gather to Foster Awareness and Consensus on Disability Rights
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold the 7th ‘Songpa Disability Human Rights Film Festival’ at 1:30 PM on November 8th in the main auditorium of the district office.
Started in 2018 and now in its 7th year, the ‘Songpa Disability Human Rights Film Festival’ is an event sponsored annually by the district to create a space for communication where people with and without disabilities can understand each other through the familiar popular culture genre of film.
This year’s slogan, “Don’t forget, it was originally mine,” reminds us that disability rights are rights that must be properly guaranteed. It reflects the determination to raise awareness of the reality faced by people with disabilities through their direct participation and to draw the attention of the local community.
The event will begin with a violin performance by the volunteer group ‘Herz’ from the Songpa Women’s Cultural Center, followed by the screening of four disability human rights films in two parts.
First, the opening film ‘Yeogiga,’ directed by Min Ah-young and Jang Ho-kyung, will be screened. The film deals with the dreams and ideals of people arising from the replacement of a closed residential facility for people with disabilities with rental housing supporting their independent living.
In addition, short films of about 30 minutes each, including ‘Missing Mother,’ ‘From Sohee,’ and ‘Right Beside You Now,’ will be screened consecutively. During the break between the first and second parts, a raffle event will be held for light-hearted enjoyment.
Notably, this film festival will be held as a ‘barrier-free’ event with simultaneous sign language interpretation, subtitles, and audio description. It can be enjoyed comfortably by anyone regardless of disability status or type, and participation is possible without separate reservations or applications.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I hope this film festival will be an opportunity to understand and empathize with the difficulties faced by people with disabilities as members of the local community,” and added, “We will continue to strive to create an inclusive city where people with disabilities can live happily and with dignity.”
