How Will Changwon Register Christian Cultural Heritage? Seminar Held
Special Lecture by Pastor Kim Young-ho of Punggak Jeil Church, Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk
Explaining the Church's Cultural Heritage on the 140th Anniversary of Korean Mission Work
A seminar to prevent the loss of Christian cultural heritage, co-hosted by the Gyeongnam Christian Cultural Foundation and the Changwon Special City Christian Presbyterian General Association, was held at Masan Changsin Church.
The seminar held on the 4th was attended by over 100 church officials from churches over 100 years old in the Gyeongnam region, as well as pastors and elders from the Christian community.
During the seminar's presentation session, Pastor Kim Young-ho of Punggak Jeil Church in Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk, gave a special lecture explaining that as Korea marks 140 years of missionary work, many cultural heritages owned by churches are scattered but are increasingly being lost.
He emphasized that from the perspective of administrative management, as support is provided for cultural heritage protection rather than just the concept of cultural assets, Christian cultural heritage should also be managed through administrative designation and registration. He stated that if precious Christian cultural heritage is left unattended without administrative designation and registration, it will inevitably be lost, so active management is necessary.
Pastor Kim explained the example of Punggak Jeil Church, which he currently leads and is 120 years old, having designated and registered over 1,000 church cultural heritage items, and urged other churches to actively manage their cultural heritage in a similar way.
