Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the country's first exhibition titled 'Masters of New York? Jackson Pollock and Friends of Mark Rothko.'
The 'Masters of New York' exhibition will showcase masterpieces by Abstract Expressionist artists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Lee Krasner, who had a profound impact on the development of contemporary art, all in one place for the first time in Korea. This is to commemorate the opening of the 'Nowon Art Museum,' which will be completed in January 2025.
The exhibition is co-hosted by Nowon-gu, the FEP Foundation (New York), and the Jewish Museum (New York), jointly organized by the Nowon Cultural Foundation and ENA Partners, with cooperation from the National Asia Culture Center Foundation, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (New York), and the Israel Museum (Jerusalem), and sponsored by Naver VIBE and Naver Whale.
Following four main sections of the exhibition hall?▲City·New York ▲Abstract Expressionism ▲Color Field Painting ▲Peers?visitors can experience a total of 36 paintings and videos by 21 artists of the 'New York School.'
A notable work in this exhibition is Jackson Pollock's Horizontal Composition (1949), valued at approximately 180 billion KRW. This piece is a representative example of the artist's unique 'action painting' technique, where instead of painting in a traditional manner, the canvas is placed on the floor and paint is dripped or flicked onto it.
In addition, works by famous artists such as Mark Rothko, Morris Louis, Robert Motherwell, Sol LeWitt, and Frank Stella will also be exhibited.
Detailed information about the operation of the 'Masters of New York' exhibition and advance ticket reservations can be found on November 19 on the Nowon-gu Office website and the Nowon Cultural Foundation website.
