Collaboration with TankTech... Introduction of Electric Vehicle Fire Suppression Solution
SK Shieldus announced on the 4th that it will collaborate with TankTech, a specialized fire extinguishing equipment company, to respond to electric vehicle fires. TankTech is a ship equipment company that has developed various technologies related to ship tanks, such as fire suppression systems inside ship containers, hydraulic control, and purification, and is showcasing electric vehicle fire suppression solutions utilizing ship engineering technology.

View original imageAccording to the National Fire Research Institute, the golden time for electric vehicle fires is known to be about 10 minutes. If the fire is not detected and extinguished within this time, it can spread into a large fire. Electric vehicles require rapid initial response as the fire spreads faster compared to internal combustion engine vehicles.
Accordingly, SK Shieldus decided to strengthen its electric vehicle fire response capabilities by adopting TankTech’s electric vehicle fire suppression solution, ‘EV Drill Lance.’ EV Drill Lance is equipment that drills a hole in the underside of an electric vehicle where the battery is installed and directly injects cooling water to extinguish the fire. This can reduce the average extinguishing time from about 160 minutes to 10 minutes. SK Shieldus plans to continuously strengthen its cooperation network with promising companies that possess electric vehicle fire response solutions and accelerate efforts to ensure customer safety.
