Gyeonggi-do Urgently Inspects 279 Buildings Vulnerable to Snow Accumulation
Gyeonggi Province will conduct safety inspections by December 6 on 279 industrialized thin-plate steel structure (PEB) buildings, which are at high risk of deformation due to snow load during the winter heavy snowfall season.
Industrialized thin-plate steel structures use an efficient structural member system where members (materials forming the framework of the structure) are larger in areas subjected to high stress and smaller in areas with less stress. However, if snow accumulates excessively under inaccurate construction and poor maintenance, the increased load can cause the structure to buckle or overturn.
Among the industrialized thin-plate steel structure buildings, Gyeonggi Province will conduct joint inspections involving the province, city/county governments, and private experts at 42 locations, while the remaining 237 locations will be inspected by the respective city/county governments. Through this, they will check ▲ maintenance status such as corrosion of steel joints ▲ condition of critical structural members in the roof layer vulnerable to snow load ▲ safety regarding deformation of steel members. For minor issues found, on-site correction orders will be issued, and for matters requiring action, improvement will be sought through correction requests.
