USFK Member Drunk and Stole Vehicle in Gangnam, Faces Additional Hit-and-Run Charges
A 20-year-old USFK serviceman, Mr. A, who was caught after stealing a vehicle while intoxicated, has been additionally charged with hit-and-run.
On the 31st, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that Mr. A, who was driving a stolen passenger car and collided with a taxi before fleeing, has been additionally charged with hit-and-run causing injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and failure to take measures after an accident under the Road Traffic Act.
Mr. A stole and drove a parked passenger car while intoxicated around 1:30 a.m. on the 29th of last month in an alley in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu. About an hour and a half later, at 2:50 a.m., he was urgently arrested by police in Osan, Gyeonggi Province. His blood alcohol concentration at the time was at the license cancellation level (0.08%).
During the police investigation, Mr. A stated that he "stole and drove the car with the engine running because he wanted to return to the base quickly." Mr. A only possessed a US driver's license.

The police plan to send Mr. A to the prosecution on the 1st of next month on charges of theft, reckless driving causing injury and hit-and-run under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, and drunk driving, failure to take measures after an accident, and driving without a license under the Road Traffic Act.
