Hanwha Hires 'Second-Generation Korean American' Former U.S. Foreign Cooperation Officer
Hanwha announced on the 29th that it recently hired Jason Park (Park Je-seon), a second-generation Korean American officer who served in Afghanistan and former Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the state of Virginia, as the Senior Director of External Cooperation within its U.S. external cooperation organization to strengthen defense cooperation with the United States.

He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the 2nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, participating in the Afghanistan War. In December 2012, he was injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the Taliban during a foot patrol, received the Purple Heart, and was discharged as a U.S. Army captain.
After his discharge, he completed an MBA at Georgetown University and worked as Boeing’s head of veterans affairs and as Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the state of Virginia. During his tenure as Deputy Secretary, he attended the 70th anniversary ceremony of the Korean War armistice, honoring the noble sacrifices of veterans from both countries and actively worked to strengthen Korea-U.S. defense cooperation.
Director Park stated, “Based on my extensive experience in government agencies and the defense industry, I will do my best to contribute to Hanwha’s Korea-U.S. defense cooperation.”

A Hanwha official said, “Jason Park, who symbolizes the Korea-U.S. alliance and understands both countries well, is expected to play a role in contributing to defense cooperation between the two nations through Hanwha’s entry into the U.S. defense market.”
