Yeoju City Dementia Safety Center, Operation of Dementia Public Guardianship Project
The Dementia Safety Center in Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Director Choi Young-sung) announced on the 28th that it is operating a public guardianship project for dementia patients who have no family or cannot receive practical help even if they have family.
The public guardianship project for elderly dementia patients is a system designed to protect the decision-making rights of dementia patients who have mental limitations and are vulnerable to financial fraud.
The ward is selected through a case meeting at the Dementia Safety Center among those diagnosed with dementia who have no family to properly represent their rights or, even if they have family, considering the possibility of abuse, neglect, or self-neglect. After going through the court petition and judgment procedures necessary for guardianship judgment, once confirmed, they can receive guardianship support activities.
The support services include property management through a public guardian for dementia, issuance of official documents, proxy application for welfare services, consent for medical treatment and procedures, verification of basic living benefits eligibility, chronic disease management, and support for housing-related administrative tasks within the scope prescribed by law.
A representative of the Yeoju Dementia Safety Center said, “The public guardianship project for dementia is expected to be a strong protective shield for the human rights of dementia patients who have difficulty making decisions,” and added, “We will continue to strive to make Yeoju a city where people with dementia can live with dignity and peace of mind.”
