Chungnam Seafood Radiation Test 'Safe'... No Iodine or Cesium Detected
Seafood from the Chungnam region has been found to be safe based on radiation test results.
According to the province on the 28th, radiation testing of locally produced seafood has been strengthened since the release of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in August last year.
The Provincial Institute of Fisheries Resources conducted radiation tests on 248 samples from 43 types of seafood, including laver and whiteleg shrimp, caught this year, and found that none of the samples contained detectable levels of iodine or cesium.
Last month, the province added additional beta radionuclide analysis equipment, and starting in January next year, it plans to expand testing to include tritium in addition to cesium and iodine.
The test results can be checked on the province's official website.
