Dongdaemun-gu Operates 'Companion Dog Behavior Correction Academy' for Happy Coexistence with Dogs
From October 30, Expert Lectures and Practical Training for Companion Dogs Held Separately
Residents (Dog Owners) with Registered Dogs Eligible to Apply... Free Training Fee
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is operating the 'Companion Dog Behavior Correction Academy' to foster a mature companion culture.
Currently, about 21,000 companion dogs are registered in Dongdaemun-gu, and this program was prepared in response to the rapidly increasing companion population and the rise in abandoned animals.
The purpose is to provide necessary information for companion dog care and to create a culture where both companion owners and non-owners can coexist.
The program is divided into two parts: the first is an expert lecture, and the second is practical training with companion dogs. Applications are accepted until October 28.
The first lecture, titled "Harmonious Life with Companion Dogs," covers essential topics for companion dog care, including dog care and pet etiquette. This lecture will be held on October 30 at the in-house academy on the second basement floor of Dongdaemun-gu Office.
The second practical training will be conducted on November 2 and 6, divided into weekend and weekday classes. Small groups will practice with their companion dogs at the dog playground located under Jang-an Bridge on Jungnangcheon Stream.
The playground is equipped with shade tents, benches, and play equipment, providing an optimal environment for dog play and training. It is open at all times for anyone to use freely.
Participants must be residents who have registered their companion dogs, and 50 teams will be selected through a random computerized draw. The training is free of charge, and for further inquiries, contact the entrusted training institution.
Dongdaemun-gu has also piloted the installation and operation of companion dog waiting stations (leash racks) at five major parks and public restrooms in the district (Baebongsan Forest Library, Yongdu and Jang-an Neighborhood Parks, Jangmi and Neulpureun Children's Parks).
Going forward, various support projects such as walking competitions with companion dogs, walking education, and pet boarding services will be promoted.
