Park Seong-mi, CEO of ‘Rakrak,’ the operator of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) student cafeteria, donated 20 million KRW to the development fund. Since President Lim Gi-cheol took office, the cumulative donation amount has increased to 3.2 billion KRW.

View original imageAccording to GIST on the 22nd, CEO Park stated, “I prepare meals with care every moment, thinking of GIST students as ‘my own children.’ I decided to donate with the hope that through improving student welfare, the bodies and minds of GIST students will become healthier.” CEO Park has been responsible for students’ meals on the 2nd floor of the GIST 2nd Student Hall for 10 years since 2014.
GIST announced that since President Lim Gi-cheol’s inauguration in July last year, the cumulative amount of development fund donations over the past 16 months is 3.2 billion KRW, and the pledged donation amount is 6.1 billion KRW. Including the pledged amount, the total donations secured by President Lim amount to 9.3 billion KRW. The cumulative and pledged amounts include 300 million KRW for the Distinguished Professor Fund and 300 million KRW for the Advanced AI-based Convergence Research Fund.

At the National Assembly Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee audit held at KAIST in Daejeon on the 17th, Assemblyman Jeong Dong-young compared the large-scale donation cases secured by President Lee Kwang-hyung and questioned President Lim about whether only 10 million KRW had been donated since his inauguration. President Lim, who did not get a chance to explain during the audit, told reporters afterward, “I donate 20% of my monthly salary to the school, which alone exceeds 10 million KRW.” President Lim pledged a 100 million KRW donation to the development fund immediately after taking office.
