On the 21st, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that Vice Minister Jang Mi-ran will set off on a bicycle trip to Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province, together with foreigners living in Korea. Through this trip, they plan to directly experience and inspect the infrastructure of bicycle tourism, a representative form of sports tourism in Korea, from the perspective of foreigners.
Vice Minister Jang has been discovering and experiencing hidden gem-like tourism programs across various regions of Korea and producing promotional videos focusing on the accessibility, interest, and satisfaction of these programs. Following the first episode in August, which featured Muju County in Jeollabuk-do, this time she will visit Yeoju City in Gyeonggi Province, where bicycle tourism is being actively promoted, as the second episode.
Vice Minister Jang will begin the Namhan River bicycle trip starting from ‘Ipobo,’ a structure shaped like an egg placed on the wings of a white heron. After cycling approximately 13 km, she will take a mid-break at ‘Yeojubo,’ designed in the form of Angbuilgu (a sundial) and Cheugugi (a rain gauge) invented during the reign of King Sejong.
Then, after cycling about 8 km more, the trip will conclude at ‘Silleuksa,’ Yeoju’s representative temple located by the riverside overlooking the Namhan River.
Four foreigners residing in Korea will join this trip, including those working at Korean companies who operate bicycle-related social media, and exchange students active in bicycle clubs. Vice Minister Jang will tour the local bicycle tourism infrastructure from the foreigners’ perspective and discuss ways to revitalize it.
