The Korea Senior Citizens Association Changwon Branch Celebrates Senior Citizens Day... "Let's Become a Model for Society"
The Korea Senior Citizens Association Changwon Branch in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, held a commemorative ceremony and a senior citizens' consolation banquet to celebrate the 28th Senior Citizens' Day.
The Changwon Branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association held the 28th Senior Citizens' Day ceremony and awarded commendations to contributors to senior welfare.

The ceremony held on the 18th at KBS Changwon Hall was attended by Branch President Kim Jong-hyo, Changwon City First Vice Mayor Jang Geum-yong, National Assembly member Kim Jong-yang, Changwon City Council Vice Chairman Kwon Seong-hyun, city council members Baek Seung-gyu, Kim Hye-ran, Gu Jeom-deuk, Park Kang-woo, Park Hae-jeong, as well as other guests and senior citizens affiliated with the Changwon Branch.
The ceremony proceeded in the order of pre-event activities, opening ceremony, national anthem, reading of the Senior Citizens' Pledge and Senior Charter, award presentation, commemorative speech, congratulatory speech, and a performance by a guest singer.
During the award presentation, a total of 37 people received awards including commendations for exemplary seniors, contributors to senior welfare, the Changwon Mayor's Commendation, the Central Association President's Commendation, and the Changwon Branch President's Commendation.

President Kim said, “We are now in an aging society where seniors are becoming the center of society,” adding, “With much wisdom and learning, we must serve as role models for the younger generation and future people.”
“With the hope that even one person becomes a necessary member of society, we are implementing the medical voucher system and continue to dream of a healthy and joyful life,” he added. “I also hope the administration will seek more efficient and practical measures, such as providing senior jobs where we can be recognized for our rightful labor.”

Vice Mayor Jang said, “The seniors achieved the invaluable accomplishments of the world's only economic growth and democratization through sacrifice and dedication, and they are the living history that made today's Republic of Korea possible,” adding, “This event is an occasion to honor and respect the lives of seniors who devoted themselves to the nation and local communities during difficult times.”
He continued, “To repay even a little, we intend to promote small but important policies one by one,” promising to expand senior job projects, implement free city bus rides for seniors aged 75 and older, and increase park golf courses.

Senior Citizens' Day is a legal commemorative day established in 1997 to raise respect and social interest for seniors and to express gratitude for the efforts of seniors who have contributed to community development. It was organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare until 1999 and has been held as an autonomous event by senior-related organizations since 2000.
