Two Classes for Children with Multiple and Severe Disabilities Established at Incheon Kindergarten... A Nationwide First
For the first time nationwide, a class for children with moderate to severe multiple disabilities has been established in a public kindergarten in Incheon.
On the 18th, the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will open two classes for children with moderate to severe multiple disabilities at Jayu Kindergarten in Jung-gu, Incheon, and will begin full-scale operation starting March next year.
The recruitment capacity is 2 students per class, totaling 4 students, and a customized educational environment and medical services tailored to the characteristics of disabilities and developmental stages will be provided. Moderate to severe multiple disabilities refer to cases where the degree of disability is very severe and two or more disabilities overlap.
The Office of Education also newly established three general special classes in Seo-gu and one class in Bupyeong-gu, operating a total of six new special classes. As a result, the total number of special classes in kindergartens in the region has increased to 121.
Do Seong-hoon, Superintendent of Education in Incheon, said, "We will strive to ensure that young children with special educational needs can learn in the best educational environment suited to their diverse characteristics and requirements."
