Walk with Your Dog... 'Paju DMZ Pet Trekking' Held on the 26th
On the 17th, Paju City in Gyeonggi announced that it will hold the '2024 Paju DMZ Peace Trail - DMZ Pet Trekking (Second Half)' event at the Ribigyo Historical and Cultural Park in Papyung-myeon on the 26th.
The 'DMZ Peace Trail' is a walking path that serves as a cross-border route from Ganghwa to Goseong and is part of the 'Korea Dulle-gil,' which connects the outskirts of South Korea. The 'Pet Trekking Event' using the Peace Trail course was organized to revitalize the DMZ Peace Trail and promote a mature pet culture.
The walking section belongs to Course 9 of the Paju DMZ Peace Trail, a journey of about 1 hour and 30 minutes that starts at Ribigyo Historical and Cultural Park, follows along the Geumpa Water Intake Station, and returns via Apo Samgeori.
Participants in the pet trekking can walk with their dogs along the core section of the DMZ Peace Trail, including Ribigyo Historical and Cultural Park and the scenic riverside of the Imjin River. In particular, village explanations by residents of Papyung-myeon will be provided, allowing participants to hear vivid local stories.
In addition, experiential programs such as pet restaurants, caricatures, and calligraphy, as well as events like the 'Pet Runway,' will be held.
The participation fee is 10,000 KRW, and souvenirs and portable mats will be provided. Those wishing to apply can register on the 'Eventus website' by the 24th.
Kim Kyung-il, mayor of Paju City, stated, "Through this event, we expect the border area tourism industry to be revitalized and for Paju City to take a step closer to becoming a 'pet-friendly city' where people and animals coexist harmoniously."

Meanwhile, Paju City successfully completed the 'Paju DMZ Dangdang Trekking' and 'DMZ Pet Trekking,' the first dog-walking events within the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone, civilian control zone) in the first half of this year and last year.
