Samsung Electro-Mechanics Successfully Produces Workwear Using Recycled 'MLCC Waste'
Pilot Introduction Starting This Month
100% Upcycled New Work Uniforms to Be Adopted from 2025
Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 15th that it has succeeded in producing work uniforms recycled from waste generated during the manufacturing process of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) and will pilot their introduction starting this month.
Since 2022, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been conducting the CLR (Closed-Loop Recycling) project to make the company's work uniforms from waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film.

Currently, Samsung Electro-Mechanics uses a large amount of PET film to produce MLCCs. Unlike typical PET bottles, PET film is difficult to fiberize due to its thin thickness, process contaminants, and coating components.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics collaborated with a chemical materials specialist company to overcome these technical challenges, achieving results in about two years by utilizing film processing technology and fiber production technology.
The recycled work uniforms passed various evaluations at accredited institutions, including skin irritation tests, harmful substance inspections, washing dimensional change rates, and combined light and sweat fastness tests, followed by a three-month wearability test by employees.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics plans to produce 300 recycled work uniforms for pilot application starting this month and aims to switch all new work uniforms to recycled ones from next year.
