Expansion of Wastewater Treatment Capacity in Yongin Semiconductor Cluster from 10,000 to 20,000 Tons per Day
Environmental Watershed Office Approves and Announces Basic Plan for Wastewater Treatment Facility
Project Cost Increased from 66 Billion to 101.5 Billion KRW... Establishing a 32,107㎡ Scale Facility
The wastewater treatment capacity of the 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex' in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, where SK Hynix's semiconductor production line is being established, will be doubled.
According to Yongin City on the 15th, the Hangang River Basin Environmental Office under the Ministry of Environment recently approved and announced the basic plan amendment for the wastewater treatment facility of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster.

View original imageThis decision was made following consultations between Yongin City and the Hangang River Basin Environmental Office, considering the increased demand for wastewater treatment facilities. Accordingly, the treatment capacity of the wastewater treatment facility, originally planned at 10,000 tons per day, will be doubled to 20,000 tons per day.
With the amendment of the basic plan, the total project cost for the wastewater treatment facility will increase from 66 billion KRW to 101.5 billion KRW, and the Ministry of Environment's national subsidy will also be increased from 18.6 billion KRW to 34.5 billion KRW. The remaining project cost will be borne by the project operator, Yongin General Industrial Complex Co., Ltd.
The public wastewater treatment facility is planned to be constructed on approximately 32,107㎡ at San 15, Jungneung-ri, Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu. The treatment facility will process wastewater and sewage generated from the cooperative complex and gas supply facility complex within the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster. Wastewater and sewage generated from SK Hynix's semiconductor production facilities will be treated separately through their own facilities.
The wastewater and sewage first undergo a pretreatment process to remove large suspended solids before flowing into the public wastewater treatment facility. Then, it goes through biological advanced treatment processes from the first to the third stage, and is discharged after being treated to biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of 5 ppm and total organic carbon (TOC) of 5 ppm or less. These standards are stricter than the legal water quality standards of BOD 10 ppm or less and TOC 15 ppm or less.
In particular, all wastewater treatment facilities will be constructed underground. On the surface, reflecting the opinions of citizens and local residents, a park, a soccer field, a jokgu field, a tennis court, and a futsal field will each be created.

A city official stated, "The construction will be carried out in three phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion in February 2027," adding, "The purified discharged water will maintain water quality much cleaner than the legal standards through advanced treatment processes." He also added, "We will thoroughly manage and supervise the construction process of the public wastewater treatment facility so that it can be used as a living sports space for local residents."
