Agreement Signed on the 11th, Targeting Seongdong-gu Recipients, Establishing Musinsa Social Contribution Fund, Promoting Collaboration with Milal Welfare Foundation Support Projects... Providing 1 Million KRW Each for Mental and Physical Health Care and Self-Development Expenses to 10 Low-Income Family Care Youth... Supporting 20 Physically Disabled Individuals with 900,000 KRW Each for Custom Orthopedic Shoes and Insoles, Expecting Synergistic Effects Linked to Seongsu-dong Handmade Shoe Business
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced on the 11th that it signed a business agreement with Musinsa and the social welfare corporation Milal Welfare Foundation to support vulnerable groups.
Recently, social interest has been growing in family caregiving youth, also known as "Young Carer," referring to young people who are caring for family members in need of care due to illness, disability, mental health, alcohol, drugs, etc., or who are responsible for the livelihood because of this. Detailed support for physically disabled people facing various difficulties in daily life is also urgently needed.
Accordingly, Seongdong-gu signed an agreement with Musinsa (CEO Park Jun-mo) and Milal Welfare Foundation (Chairman Hong Jeong-gil) to provide support for family caregiving youth as well as physically disabled people. In a situation where institutional support for family caregiving youth is particularly lacking, Seongdong-gu is taking a proactive role in filling the blind spots of care through public-private cooperation.
According to the agreement, the district will actively identify target groups such as family caregiving youth and physically disabled people, and Milal Welfare Foundation will utilize the social contribution fund raised by Musinsa to jointly promote various support projects. Musinsa continuously donated goods to Giving Plus within Milal Welfare Foundation, raising a social contribution fund of 30 million KRW.
First, 10 low-income family caregiving youth residing in Seongdong-gu will be selected and provided with self-care expenses of 1 million KRW per person, totaling 10 million KRW. The self-care expenses will be used for mental and physical health management, self-development, and other purposes. The district plans to focus on discovering and supporting family caregiving youth in welfare blind spots so that they can experience the daily life of ordinary youth and not give up on their present and future, as well as on follow-up management.
A customized orthopedic shoe production and insole support project for physically disabled people will also be promoted. This is inspired by Musinsa’s headquarters being located in Seongsu-dong, which is famous for handmade shoes. The district, in cooperation with Milal Welfare Foundation, plans to identify about 20 low-income physically disabled people who have difficulty walking due to foot function disorders or foot deformities and support them with about 2 million KRW in total, 900,000 KRW per person.
This will not only alleviate the economic burden on disabled people but also improve their quality of life. Additionally, by linking with orthopedic shoe manufacturers for the disabled in the Seongsu-dong handmade shoe street, the project is expected to have a positive effect on revitalizing the local economy.
