Hankook Tire, Agreement on Recycling and Reuse of Waste Tires
Hankook Tire & Technology announced on the 11th that it has signed a business agreement with the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, LD Carbon, and Dreamstar to establish a cooperative system to promote the recycling and reuse of waste tires. According to the agreement, they will establish a cooperative system to recycle waste tires with high utilization value as circular resources and to dispose of them after serving as fenders, thereby converting them into recycled raw materials.
Shin Young-seop, CEO of Dreamstar, Oh Sang-hyun, Plant Manager of Hankook Tire Geumsan Factory, Kim Kang-sik, Head of Marine Industry Headquarters at Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, and Hwang Yong-kyung, CEO of LD Carbon, are taking a commemorative photo after the signing ceremony.

Considering that waste tires are mainly used as fenders when ships berth and dock, the cooperative system will have Hankook Tire select and supply usable waste tires, Dreamstar collect and transport the tires for processing such as tire cutting, and the corporation receive the processed products for use on ships. Waste tires that have reached the end of their lifespan as fenders will be collected by LD Carbon and converted into recycled carbon. They also agreed to cooperate broadly to enable use by private vessels.
