In December of last year, Gangbuk-gu established the ‘2040 Gangbuk-gu Urban Development Plan’ to present a mid- to long-term vision for the district, which boasts a pristine natural environment. Based on this plan, the district has been steadily working toward balanced regional development that harmonizes the natural environment with urban infrastructure. Accordingly, the previous slogan, ‘Gangbuk-gu, a City of Historical and Cultural Tourism,’ was changed to ‘A Natural City Gangbuk-gu that Empowers,’ reflecting the commitment to develop into a city resembling nature that empowers residents’ lives and where everyone wants to live.
To encourage residents’ interest and participation in the new slogan, the district conducted an online preference survey for 19 days starting August 26, gathering opinions from 4,423 residents, which led to the finalization of the design and representative colors.
The Gangbuk-gu slogan proclamation ceremony was organized to introduce the new slogan to residents. Held around Beonchanggyo Bridge on the Uicheon Stream, the ceremony was attended by about 2,000 residents. After Mayor Lee Soon-hee shouted ‘A Natural City that Empowers,’ the residents echoed ‘Gangbuk-gu’ in unison, and lanterns embodying the greenery of Bukhansan Mountain and Uicheon Stream were lit. Everyone welcomed the new slogan with enthusiastic applause.
