The number of cyber copyright infringement cases has increased tenfold over the past five years.

View original imageAccording to data submitted by the National Police Agency to Kim Jong-yang, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, the number of cyber copyright infringement crimes recorded from January to August this year was 20,908 cases.
By year, there were 2,183 cases in 2020, 2,423 cases in 2021, 3,302 cases in 2022, and 8,727 cases in 2023, showing a sharp increase each year.

Rep. Kim stated, “Currently, cyber copyright infringement crimes are expanding into various categories and types, ranging from photos, videos, and dramas to illegal gambling and distribution of obscene material sites,” and emphasized, “It is necessary to enhance the police's expertise and establish continuous cooperation systems with private and overseas experts and institutions.”
