In May 2025, the world's first garden festival for children will be held at Neungdong Seoul Children’s Grand Park in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to hold the festival annually on Children’s Day, transforming this place into a grand garden for children.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 8th, the city will hold the 'Children’s Garden Festival' for two weeks from May 5 to 18, 2025, at Seoul Children’s Grand Park.
Established in 1973, Seoul Children’s Grand Park has many aging facilities and lacks spaces where children can create or experience gardens. Therefore, Seoul plans to reinvent the park with garden culture content through the 'Children’s Garden Festival.' In particular, the 'Children’s Garden Festival' will be expanded annually as a representative tourism content for Children’s Day in connection with the 'Seoul Garden Expo.' Seoul aims to develop the Children’s Garden Festival into an event comparable to the Chelsea Flower Show, generating various economic effects such as spreading garden culture, increasing tourism and consumption, revitalizing the horticulture industry, and creating jobs. The Chelsea Flower Show, which began in 1913, is a world-renowned horticultural expo held annually in London, UK, and has established itself as an important event contributing to tourism, the horticulture industry, and the local economy.
Accordingly, various gardens tailored to children’s tastes will be created in the Children’s Grand Park. Five elements necessary for gardening?water, soil, light, wind, and time?will be set as spatial themes, and mystical themed gardens such as the 'Garden Wizard,' the Fairy Forest Garden, and the Giant’s Garden will be created at children’s eye level.
To ensure the festival’s success, participating companies, institutions, and organizations will collaborate. Based on social consensus on ESG management, eco-friendly social contribution activities, and children’s rights, active cooperation will be promoted until the event date. At the same time, infrastructure for safe event hosting, such as maintenance of aging facilities and electrical and equipment repairs within the Children’s Grand Park, will be established.
Various gardening programs utilizing the ecological infrastructure of the Children’s Grand Park will also be operated year-round. Seasonal programs such as 'Make Your Own Terrarium,' 'Succulent Pot Making,' 'Children’s Vegetable Garden Experience Class,' and 'Rice Paddy Experience Class' will provide fun and interest in gardening for children and families, offering a unique experience to heal with nature in the city.
