Yangsan City Implements Crime Prediction and Prevention Management Using Big Data
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam Province is focusing on crime prediction and prevention by building a crime prediction tool using local crime big data and conducting a three-month trial operation.
The newly established crime prediction tool analyzes various crimes and incidents using big data, categorizing them by crime type, region, and time. It predicts what type of crime is likely to occur in which area and at what time, enabling CCTV monitoring staff to focus their surveillance accordingly.
The analyzed big data is displayed visually on a GIS-based map, making it easy to understand at a glance. By utilizing this system, the workload of over 800 cameras assigned to each monitoring staff member can be distributed more efficiently and in a timely manner. Additionally, by predicting areas and time zones with a high frequency of specific crimes, the system allows for focused monitoring, effectively serving as a "cyber surveillance" function.
The city administration can use this big data analysis tool not only for installing security CCTVs but also as a reference when establishing urban safety infrastructure for citizens, enabling efficient budget execution.
In the future, if this system is linked with an AI-based selective monitoring system capable of detecting abnormal behaviors, wandering, intrusion, falls, collapse, illegal dumping, and crowding captured on CCTV footage, it will enable even more accurate monitoring, creating a safer and more pleasant urban environment.
