Taepyeong Shopping Center is a comprehensive shopping complex around Taepyeong Apartment, with 74 businesses including dining, beverages, food, and academies registered as members. With this alley-type shopping district designation, Taepyeong Shopping Center can now apply for government and Gyeonggi Province public projects equivalent to traditional markets, such as accepting Onnuri gift certificates and business environment and facility improvement projects.
Jung Jang-seon, mayor of Pyeongtaek City, said, "In this difficult economic situation, we will discover more alley-type shopping districts to enhance competitiveness and revitalize the local commercial area."

Earlier, the city revised the ordinance for alley-type shopping districts in December last year to relax the designation criteria. The previous standard, which required at least 30 stores operated by small business owners within 2,000㎡, was changed to allow designation of commercial areas with 25 or more stores within the area, and non-commercial areas with 20 or more stores concentrated within the area.
